own a helmet can be fitted for and receive one at
the Pacific/Algona Community Center before the

coupons, and lots of fun. The owner of the best
decorated (original, creative, etc.) bike will
receive an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

City of Pacific Earth Day
On Saturday March
19, Pacific Partnerships, Friends of the Lower White
River (FLWR), and residents of Pacific joined
together to help clean up some of the city’s Public
areas. Nature did not co-operate as we saw rain,
snow, hail, and a few rays of sun.
At the starting
point, Ann Smith and Joe LaBelle set up a digital
scale from Avery Weigh-tronixs to weigh the amount
of rubbish collected during the course of the day.
By 10:45 am everyone started in.
Mayor, Richard
Hildreth collected more than 200 pounds while Frank
Hatten collected more than 300 pounds. Others
collected along the Interurban Trail and a team
headed for the Terry Home storm water retention
pond, collecting everything from an engine block and
propane tanks to plastic bottles, and candy
wrappers.
By early afternoon
more than 700 pounds of rubbish was collected and
weighed in. Friends of the Lower White River
provided FLWR mugs to those bringing back the most
rubbish. Earth Marbles were handed out for each bag
of trash. A coloring contest was held for kids and
Alex from Evergreen Heights Elementary was the
winner. Thanks to all who were involved. Job well
done!
Pacific Princesses Visit
Local Schools
For the first time,
our Pacific Princesses visited Ilalko and Alpac
Elementary Schools. Reigning Princess Brittany
(wearing her gown and crown) and prior year
princesses Julie and Jake (dressed down in jeans and
their crowns) visited the 4th
and 5th
grade classrooms.
It was really fun
for the girls to visit their “old” school and they
spent about 5 minutes in each classroom during the
lunch break talking about what the princess
experience meant to them. They also talked about
what it takes to be a princess – being friendly,
speaking in public, being on time for parades and
special events, loving your city, and smiling for
about 2 hours straight in parades. They taught the
kids the “Princess Wave”, and handed out
applications for the 2008/2009 Miss Pacific
Princess. The girls were beautiful, confident, and
kind to everyone and we can be truly proud to have
them represent our City. You can see the princesses
yourselves during the Kids Parade at Pacific Days
this
July 11 starting at 6:15 pm.
2008 Miss Pacific Princess
Our 2008 Miss Pacific Princess
will be crowned on Friday, July 11,
after the Kids Parade at
approximately 7 pm on stage at Pacific
City Park. If you have a fourth
or fifth grader in your family she is eligible to
apply, but must do so by
5 pm on June 29.
See the Attention All Princesses article on page 4
for details.

Attention All Princesses!
We Need You!
Do you want to be the next Miss
Pacific Princess? There are lots of fun events you
get to be a part of. We are taking applications for
the Miss Pacific Princess to be crowned at the
opening ceremony of the Pacific Days 2008.
You need to be a 4th
or 5th grader, and live in the City of
Pacific. There is an application you will need to
complete and turn in by 5 pm on June 29. You will
then have the opportunity to meet with members of
the Pacific Partnerships who will ask you some easy
questions. Your responses are compared to the
responses of the other applicants and determine the
new princess.
So, pick up your application
from your teacher at school, at the Union Station
adjacent to the City of Pacific Post Office, or from
our website at www.pacificpartnerships.org.
